What is the Treadwell®?
The Treadwell® is a revolutionary new device with patent pending technology that anyone can use. Our innovative new technology is non-invasive and designed for ease of use with very low exertion. The design allows for a low-resistance motion for the user as compared to high exertion, high resistance exercise devices. This device will provide many benefits while doing no harm.
By harnessing the power of the body's "Calf Pump Mechanism" with the device, the user's blood flow velocity increases, particularly in the lower extremities. The muscles are re-oxygenated and fluid is moved out of the lower extremities to allow more venous blood to return. It is easy to understand that the use of the Treadwell® establishes a new "No Pain, Big Gain" paradigm.
Users of this device simply need to be seated with the Treadwell® positioned with their feet on the pedal to initiate the beneficial movement. The treadle is engaged by starting with some pressure on the heels and then rocking the foot forward as the ankle becomes the pivot point. The rocking motion continues throughout the session. Once the treadle begins moving, the innovative, technological design of the device enables the user to continue treading with very little effort during a treading sesion. A treading session can be as little as ten minutes and as much as several hours. Although the device has very low resistance, the benefits associated with engagement of the "Calf Pump Mechanism" are obtained while the user is engaged in this non-fatiguing activity. How does the Treadwell® work?
We know that the tightening of the calf muscles that occurs during the rocking motion of the ankle squeezes the veins in the legs. This squeezing action propels the blood up the legs toward the heart while one way valves in the veins prevent back-flow, . Some call this mechanism a “calf pump”.
By moving more blood out of the leg veins, we believe that using the Treadwell® reduces hydrostatic pressure in the legs, allowing fluid in the tissues to reenter the capillaries. Edema fluid can thus flow from the tissues into the bloodstream to be carried back to the heart and ultimately to the kidneys to be eliminated.
The reason for increased arterial blood flow velocity into the legs is something for much more medical research, but here are a couple of theories. By removing fluid from the capillaries and veins of the legs, using the Treadwell® reduces resistance in the vascular system, allowing freshly oxygenated blood to more easily enter the limbs to nourish the tissues. Furthermore, we have reason to believe that arterial circulation around the body is increased in general, including, of course, the lower extremities.
